Illustration

Illustration is a strong passion of ours. Because of this, we respect the right for each illustrator to have a unique look and feel attached to their work, thereby maintaining their identity as an independent artist in the industry.

So, what does this mean? Well, basically, Red Penny Studios acts as an interface between you (the business) and the illustrator. This means that we will set up the business agreements, write the brief,

So feel free to browse below and look at our illustrators. If you feel that you would like a particular style, then please contact us and we can accommodate your needs.

Useful information about illustration

What am I buying?

Are you buying a piece of art? Um, no. What you are buying are the rights to use/reproduce that piece of art – similar, but slightly different. There are different rights available for purchase (which we can guide you with), that give you different powers in regards to how you can use that artwork. Some example thoughts to consider are:

  • what you can use the artwork on, whether it be book covers, or cups and saucers, T-shirts, or a combinations of items
  • distribution, using the illustration nationally or internationally
  • you can use the artwork first, before anybody else
  • buy the illustration outright – you become the full owner and can use it completely (note that this often increases the cost a lot more)

How do I know what kind of rights I need?

Yes, it can be very confusing. We know that very well. Just remember that the team at Red Penny Studios are here to help and guide you through the process. We are here to help you and ensure that you get what you want.

What is a brief?

A brief is a job description. This tells the illustrator what is needed, as well as the terms and conditions of the project. Red Penny Studios does create this as part of the job.

How long will it take?

There is no definitive answer to this question! It really depends on the job, what is needed, as well as a host of other factors. However, you can be sure that if there is a reasonable timeline, we will make the deadline.
